About
Hello my name is Kay!
Oh hello.
It’s a tale as old as time.
A child finds a love for creating and can’t seem to leave it alone. That’s what happened to me atleast. Where my need to make has never left me, my way of finding how to keep it going has ebbed and flowed.
Graduating with a BFA in Graphic Design, my new degree catapulted me into the world of catalogue design in Chicago IL. Two years of working in the industry and I found myself turning to a freelance life while working at a doggy daycare part time.
After my art took a step back, I wasn’t sure where my love of creating would go, but I knew it never left. With my family growing, a move back to Upstate NY, and the birth of my first daughter, I rediscovered the childrens illustration world and haven’t looked back since.
Through ups and downs, trials and errors, and finding my individual artistic style, my business Ohkayyay was created. Ohkayyay is my world for all to see. A collection of imagination, and wonder, Ohkayyay has grown and evolved throughout the years since 2019.
Inspiration for my work finds me at random and magical times. I draw inspiration from everyday life, nature, my family (mostly my kids) and always try to add a touch of whimsy to everything I create. I have a deep love for children’s art and the freedom that it envelopes and am on a continuous journey to bring that freedom and looseness to my own work.
I currently live in Upstate NY with my husband, three kids, one dog, three cats (one in our memories), and one bearded dragon named Rupert. When I’m not painting or creating, you can find me cooking vegan dishes, thrifting or exploring antique stores with my mom, birding at a local trail, or reading a (most likely) fiction novel.
If you’d like to follow along with my current reads, you can find me here on goodreads. If you’d like to take up a hobby in bird watching I would love to recommend the app Merlin Bird ID.
If you would like to stay up to date on my art journey with behind the scenes, insights, tips and tutorials, or just find inspiration for your own creative journey, sign up for my newsletter Bit Bobs and Knick Knacks. I try to update as much as possible, and can’t wait to share my world more with you.
